Case Study: Elevating European Game Entertainment - The ELF Championship Game 2025

On September 7th, 2025, the European League of Football Championship Game brought 36,784 fans to the MHP Arena in Stuttgart. As Event Director and Show Caller, I was responsible for the full in-stadium entertainment experience, from the first pre-game cue to the final celebration. What unfolded was one of Europe’s most ambitious sports productions to date. Blending the emotional storytelling of American football with the precision and creativity of European show culture.

Concept & Goals

The vision was clear: bring the authentic American in-stadium entertainment experience to Europe. We wanted to prove that a European sports event could match the scale, emotion, and production quality of the NFL or similar sporting events in the United States. Combining sport, music, ceremony, and interactive fan engagement into one cohesive live experience.

For me personally, the goal was to design, plan, and execute every second of that experience, ensuring flawless coordination between show acts, teams, broadcasters, and fans. The objective: make every person in the arena and everyone watching at home, feel part of something unforgettable.

Execution / Process

From concept to final cue, the 2025 Championship Game was a multi-layered production involving more than 200 people, from players and military units to performers, technicians, and broadcasters.

The game-day began with a powerful pre-game ceremony, choreographed down to the second. Together with the Bundeswehr Wachbataillon, 100+ soldiers and 70+ musicians from the military choir entered the field in formation, performing both national anthems alongside a Voice of Germany artist Vasco.

The halftime show took the production to another level: legendary German hip-hop group Die Fantastischen Vier performed a 12-minute live set on a stage built directly into the stands. A first in Stuttgart and a symbolic homecoming for the band. Working hand in hand with their technical director Henrik Kozole, we developed the full show rundown, second by second. Every lighting cue, pyro burst, stage movement, and cheerleader choreography was mapped precisely to the music. I coordinated with the Rhein Fire Pyromaniacs, aligning dance formations, pyro timing, and broadcast angles to deliver the best possible experience for both stadium fans and live TV audiences.

Meanwhile, in the control booth, I directed the stadium entertainment and live media operations, managing the audio technicians, stadium camera, and graphic operators to run all in-game activations, including Kiss Cam, Look-A-Like Cam, Noise Meter, Live Stats, and commercial breaks.

I also designed and programmed all video wall animations, creating interactive fan activations that elevated the game’s energy in real time. Constant communication with the TV broadcast ensured every cue hit perfectly, keeping fans engaged while maintaining precise timing for live transmission.

Finally, as the champions were crowned, I directed the on-field trophy celebration, coordinating players, production crew, and cameras to deliver a finale worthy of a global broadcast.

Results & Impact

The 2025 ELF Championship Game was broadcast globally via DAZN and in the DACH region on ProSieben, reaching audiences across continents. The in-stadium experience was widely praised by fans, broadcasters, artists, teams and the league alike.

Feedback from all stakeholders was overwhelmingly positive:

  • Fans praised the energy, interactivity, and “American feel” of the event.

  • The TV production team highlighted the flawless coordination and visual consistency.

  • The Bundeswehr commended the precision and integration of their ceremonial performance.

  • Die Fantastischen Vier called it one of their more memorable live experiences, especially performing in their hometown and in the Canstatter Kurve.

Beyond the reactions, the event set a new benchmark for live sports entertainment in Europe showing that high-level, American-style event production can thrive on European soil.

Reflection / Key Takeaways

This project confirmed that I can conceptualize, direct, and execute large-scale live productions even without the traditional “event school” background. It challenged me to lead a cross-disciplinary team, manage hundreds of moving parts, and maintain creative consistency under immense pressure.

It also proved that European sports entertainment doesn’t have to play it safe. It can be bold, emotional, and cinematic. For brands and leagues, this case shows that investing in creativity and storytelling around the sport pays off. It transforms an event into an experience.

For me personally, the 2025 Championship Game was a defining moment. It was proof that with the right mix of vision, structure, and collaboration, anything is possible on a European stage.
